Doppelgänger
The Doppelgänger is one of the more unsettling types of paranormal phenomena: a ghostly double or exact visual replica of a living person. Reports usually describe the double appearing in a room where the actual person is not present, sometimes mimicking their movements or even speaking in their voice. Unlike a spirit of the dead, the doppelgänger is tied to a living ‘original.’
Historically, seeing your own doppelgänger was considered an omen of impending misfortune or death. In modern research, some theorize it is a form of ‘bilocation,’ where a person’s intense focus or trauma causes their energy to project a physical likeness elsewhere. Others classify it as a type of mimic, an entity that adopts a familiar face to cause confusion or gain trust within a household.
